Gabriele Risso
I dedicate myself to sculpture by questioning the everyday objects that surround me. I imagine space as a dense matter that envelops everything, where nothing is defined. It is up to the sculptor to provide definition through orientation, movement, and direction; only then can form reveal its boundaries and the surrounding space.
Gabriele Risso is an Italian sculptor based in London. He studied sculpture at the Ligustica Academy of Fine Arts in Genoa and the Academy of Fine Arts in Brera, Milan, before continuing his training in Paris and London. These diverse experiences have profoundly shaped his approach to sculpture. It was during his studies in Genoa, under the guidance of his sculpture professor, Massimo Chiappetta, now a mentor and close friend, that he committed to the practice of sculpture.
In 2020, Gabriele was commissioned by the Salesian community to create a permanent, site-specific installation for the Museo Casa Don Bosco in Turin. Since then, he has continued to develop his practice through exhibitions across the UK. He became a member of the Royal Society of Sculptors in 2024, and in 2025 he was awarded the Marsh Award for Best in Show at the Society’s Summer Exhibition and selected as a finalist for the First Plinth Award.
